Hinckley is Home!
We picked up Hinckley today! We got to Nancy's house around 1:30 after picking up some puppy chow & a lunch in downtown Chico. They were holding Mr. Tuxedo (named for his black collar) when we arrived, so we knew it was him for sure. I had secretly been hoping he'd be mine ever since we played with him in August, but Tyler kept telling me not to get my heart set on one dog...turns out it all worked out perfectly!
Nancy gave me a binder with his pedigree, shot history, and tips about getting him settled in the next few months, and then we hit the road. Hinckley sat in my lap while Tyler drove and was a total trooper. He slept almost the whole 3.5 hours down to Berkeley. We stopped at Tyler's place to switch cars and give him a chance to rest a little and of course he immediately peed on Tyler's floor...oops. He played with Tyler's sock (and ravaged his couch a little) and then I put him on the floorboards of my car and tried to drive to San Mateo. We got about 2 blocks before he figured out how to climb all over the place, so I had to pull over and put him in his crate...he was pretty unhappy about that but got used to it (and stopped crying) after a few miles.
Anyway, we made it home! He had his first meal and I managed to get him to pee on some newspaper. I tried to take him outside but it was dark at that point and he seemed to be eating the dirt. I'm clueless at the signs of when he's ready to go to the bathroom, but hopefully I'll get better.
Even so, I probably have the cutest dog of all time, for the record.
(POST NOTE: As I wrote this post and uploaded the pictures Hinckster proceeded to pee and poop in the kitchen. Lovely. )
